Frequently Asked Questions
Posted October 18th, 2016 by Clarissa Gregg

At Moving Station, we receive many questions from our homeowners regarding our programs. Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions we receive.
Q: I have a friend/neighbor who is a real estate agent, why shouldn’t I just use them?
A: Your friend/neighbor may be a great real estate agent, but are they the RIGHT agent for you? Sometimes mixing personal relationships with an important business transaction isn’t the best idea. It can often be hard for people to be completely frank with one another when there are personal feelings involved. Will your friend or relative be able to be forthright with you about the market value of your home even if they know it won’t meet your expectations? Will they give you honest advice about de-cluttering and staging? And there is potential for even more uncomfortable conversations should you not be happy with the service your friend/relative is providing and you need to end the working relationship. When you work with us, we take the time to vet our agents to make sure you are being introduced to the very best agents, as well as finding the best fit for your home and situation. You also have your Real Estate Counselor working alongside you to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.
Q: We can do this on our own, why would we use Moving Station?
A: You absolutely can do it on your own, but why would you want to? Your community is providing you with a gift: a team of people with extensive real estate knowledge who are here to advocate for you with no additional cost involved. Your home sale is very important to us, and we want to be sure you are getting the best service possible. While doing it alone is absolutely an option, having a team of real estate professionals in your corner can be helpful during this stressful time.
Q: How can you help us from Chicago?
A: While we may not be local to you, we partner with real estate brokerages in your area to assist with your home sale. This gives you an edge as a seller by having both your local real estate agent in your corner, as well as having a Real Estate Counselor advising and advocating for you. We bring a broader perspective to your home sale and we find this teamwork makes for very successful home sales!
Q: Isn’t it too soon for me to be meeting with agents? I’m not moving for another year!
A: You do have some time before your move, but you’ll be surprised how quickly that time flies. We encourage you to meet with agents early on as it enables you to make informed decisions when the time is right. For example, an agent will provide you with a market analysis report that will include their pricing suggestions, a customized marketing strategy for your specific home, as well as any suggested improvements they may recommend. That last piece is almost the most important as you speak with agents well in advance of a move. You will then have time to make any improvements to your home without having to rush. We can always slow things down, but we can’t make up for lost time.
Q: I want top dollar for my home, how can you help me get that?
A: That’s our goal for you as well! We work with you to determine the market value of your home and the asking price that will maximize what you get out of the property and is also competitive for your marketplace.
If you have other questions that aren’t addressed here, please feel free to reach out to us. We are always happy to explain how we can help!
